Bordeaux Candy Recipe

Photobucket

My favorite candy store in the world is See's.  Well, I haven't really been around the world to try EVERYTHING, but each time I try something new, it never compares to my favorite See's Candy Store.  When I lived in Rhode Island, I sorely missed See's and did my best to compensate with Godiva.  Not even close.  When I moved back to California, I was delighted to be near a See's though I'll be honest, I didn't head there too often as I was afraid I would grow to five times my size.

Today I almost ordered See's Dark Chocolate Bordeaux online, because sadly now I can only get it when the holidays roll around and they take up shop in our mall here in Prescott.  Since I am on a diet, I talked myself down from my strong desire, but not before looking to see if there were possible a recipe that I could follow.  And joy of joys!!!!!  I found it.  This came from Taste of Home.

BORDEAUX CANDY
from Taste of Home

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup whipping cream
1/2 tsp instant coffee
pinch salt
2 cups sifted powdered sugar
12 oz dark or milk chocolate

Melt butter and brown sugar together in heavy pan. Bring to boil and boil for two minutes. Stir in cream, coffee, salt and bring to boil again. Stir constantly. Boil for 30 seconds and remove from heat. Let cool for 10 minutes. Add sifted powdered sugar to mixture. Stir in well. Chill until mixture holds shape of a small ball. Roll into 2-inch balls. Melt chocolate according to pkg instructions. Dip candy balls into melted chocolate. Sprinkle with cake sprinkles, if desired. Makes approx. 30 bon bons.

Now even though I am on a diet, I really think I am going to make this treat this weekend.  I'm really too excited to hold out.  :)
